Correspondence to and from Martha Bee Anderson, including letters from public officials in response to her communications expressing her thoughts on political, economic, and social issues, and articles written by Anderson for publication in newspapers. Early items include form letter, 21 Mar. 1944, Columbia, S.C., Edgar A. Brown, to "Students and Faculty at Winthrop College and Others Interested in Its Welfare," enclosing copy of his "Statement With Reference to Winthrop" made on the floor of the S.C. Senate, 15 Mar. 1944, re ways in which the statement had been misinterpreted by Dr. Fraser. Also including letter, 6 Nov. [19]46, Greenville, S.C., Raven I. McDavid, to Sen. [George] Warren, requesting assistance in identifying residents of Hampton County, S.C., to be interviewed for McDavid's Linguistic Atlas of the South. Civil War memoir, 1909, written by the Rev. John Malachi Bowden, appears in draft of 1961 article by Anderson; Bowden was father of banker Ralph O.
